Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. It includes two separate, scenic slot canyon sections, referred to as Upper Antelope Canyon (or The Crack), and Lower Antelope Canyon (or The Corkscrew).

The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means ‘the place where water runs through rocks’. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called “Hasdestwazi” by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or ‘spiral rock arches’. Both are in the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation. They are accessible by guided tour only.

 

Itinerary: Las Vegas, NV Antelope Canyon Las Vegas, NV 

Today, we are starting our tour at Las Vegas, NV and you can choose to be picking up from Las Vegas Strip-area hotel. If you wish to be picking up outside of Las Vegas Strip-areas, please advise your pick up address when check out. ***Please note that surcharge may apply for picking up outside of The Strip of Las Vegas.

Today we will explore the Lower Antelope Canyon or Upper Antelope Canyon, a colorful area famous for its long, narrow canyon that we will walk through. Formed by flash floods, light penetrates through the narrow opening, creating different shades of lights, making the area popular for photographers and tourists.

After the tour, we will conclude our tour in Las Vegas Strip-areas. Please advise your drop off address when check out.

Antelope Canyon

Upper Antelope Canyon

In Navajo, it means ‘the place where water runs through rocks’. Most photographers opt to do Upper Canyon, so the photos you’ve seen and might also want to capture are most likely from here. It is shaped like a chevron (upside down V). Because it’s narrower at the top, you have more chances to see the famous light beams. It’s a shorter canyon but also wider. If mobility is an issue, you’ll have an easier time going through Upper Antelope.

Lower Antelope Canyon

In Navajo, it means ‘spiral rock arches’. For now, the Lower Antelope Canyon tours cost less amd it’s slightly less trafficked, but still very much crowded. You can still see light shafts, but it’s far and few between. It’s more fun IMO because there are stairs, ladders to climb, and some moderate scrambling. It’s known for brighter and more vibrant colors, It’s shaped like a V, wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, so it brings in much more light.
